This is an exciting year for our seniors because they have tremendous support for graduating and exploring options for college. They have the Senior Portfolio class, which provides them with structure and sufficient time to make an amazing portfolio. They have me, the senior mentor, Marisol Rodriguez, their own senior portfolio mentor and one of our alumni, Jessie Fuentes to personally guide them until graduation.
Jessie comes in every Tuesday to give her expert advice on the portfolio process. Currently our students are working on their personal memoirs and Jessie has provided excellent feedback. She challenges our seniors to critically think about their writing and is always reminding them that the path to graduation takes hard work. Jessie is a freshman at Northeastern and has been a well of information for our questioning seniors. I believe she has become a role model because she represents graduating and attending college or vocational school as an obtainable goal.
October is a busy month for our seniors. On Saturday, October 3rd we attended the national College Fair at Navy Pier, which was informative and exciting. We will be taking the ACT on Saturday, October 24th and look forward to numerous college tours which will include, UIC, Depaul, Northeastern and Columbia College.
