Snow Days
Jan 20th, 2009 | By Raymond | Category: Students ShareOn January 16th and 17th, Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos High School, closed its doors because of the “Brutally Cold” (Tom Skilling) weather. Illinois recorded its lowest temperature ever recorded in the state (on the date of 1/16/2009) of -38 degrees Fahrenheit. Many residents claimed to have a “Pre-Wind Chill Temperature” of -17 degrees Farenheit.
Students were asked to stay at home both Thursday and Friday, to stay warm and healthy. CPS schools did require students to come to school on Friday and some had to show up on Thursday. We do not have to make up those days at the end of the year. Our school has created a schedule that allows us to “bank” school days, so that we can take a couple of snow days.
Recently, our current president made comments about his daughter’s school…
“My children’s school was canceled today, because of what, some ice?” Obama said during a photo opportunity with economic leaders, who began chuckling. “As my children pointed out, in Chicago, school is never canceled. In fact, my 7-year-old pointed out that you go out for recess. You wouldn’t even stay indoors.” (D.C.’s ‘Weather Wimps’ Weigh in on Obama’s Comments” Jim Iovino NBC Washington News)
